I have uninstalled and reinstalled, I have used the detect and repair tool, I
have installed office updates, and still the program freezes when I try to
cut and past--- especially if I use the clipboard.  Autosave is also not
working right, and manual save is only working part of the time.  I DO NOT
have this trouble on my alternate word processing programs, Wordperfect and
MS Works.  I prefer WordXP and want to resolve the problem.  Could this in
any way be related to my IE6 suddenly shutting down all the time?

99% of the time, these sort of problems are caused by third party add-ins.
My strong suspicion is that you have the Works Add-in installed. Use Control
Panel, Add/Remove Programs and remove the Works Add-in. I think your
problems should go with it.

I do have MS Works as well as MS Office XP Pro with MS WORD.  WORD is the one
I'm having trouble with, Works is doing fine, and I have been using that
instead...but I prefer WORD to works and want to resolve the problem  I do
not have any Works add-ins.  However, I do know that my problems with WORD
started after I added the latest XP security fixes.

Try starting Word in Safe Mode and test copy/paste function then. From
Start, Run, type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word will start in Safe Mode. Please test now and let us
know the outcome.
