I have XP home edition and I keep getting the error "the operating system is
not presently configured to run this application" from any office app but I
need word.  Anybody know a fix to this.  Ive tried reinstalling office and
still does it.

thanks

With an Office app, click Help > Detect and Repair. Have your CDs
handy.

I'd also suggest you run a check disk on your system. Right click your
C drive from Windows Explorer, click Properties and choose Tools.
There you'll find the Error Checking tool. Run it.

Good luck...

Make sure that you haven't set Office to run in Windows compatibility mode.
Otherwise I suggest you look for Spyware or a Virus because this just
doesn't make sense.

I have the same issue!  I am unable to even OPEN a word dodc...I get the
error messgae that the program has not been installed and to run SETUP.  I've
re-installed OFFICE 2000 several times with no resolution.

Are you able to open Word? What OS are you using?

Uninstall Office through Add/Remove Programs. Download eraser2k.exe from
Microsoft.com and run that to clean out all vestiges of the old
installation. Now do a fresh installation and test again.

PS Make sure that you don't have Win9x compatibility mode selected too.
