Word/Office XP

The document is 8 A5 pages on 2 sheets of A4.

Prints OK on HP Deskjet 1220C, with bookfold option in the printer driver.

On HP officeJet R45 the first side prints OK (2 sheets/4 pages), then, when
I click on OK to print the second side.

I have been through the help file and set up correctly I think.

Do you at this point have the printed pages turned over and placed back in
the paper tray?

Yes, Thank you, Suzanne, I had the printed pages turned over and back in the
in-tray.

The version of Word that comes with Office XP is word 2002, and there is a
knowledgebase article saying that this is a known "feature", problem or bug.
If I check word/file/print/options/options for duplex printing/back of sheet
and clear /front of sheet I do get the correct number of pages printed, but
not where they should be.

It seems that Microsoft have no intention of fixing this bug... so it would
be nice if they supplied those of us who have discovered it with free
upgrades to the latest version of Word.

I have been using word since before they invented windows, and booklet
printing almost as long, starting with "Make-a-booklet". I have lately been
using the printer driver on my HP Deskjet 1220C, but I am now about to buy a
laser printer to save on ink costs. The HP 1320tn lazer printer has
auto-duplex, so it might not be a problem.

FWIW, the "Book fold" option IMO was not ready for prime time in Word 2002,
and I don't have any indication that it has been "fixed" or improved in Word
2003 (so an upgrade probably wouldn't help you). I create a fair number of
booklets, and I still use the low-tech method described in
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/BookletPrinting.htm. It has the
advantage of giving me complete control of pagination and layout, and it
*always* works (provided the printer doesn't pick up two sheets <g>).

Thanks, Suzanne... you might like to try my solution - by a Hewlet Pakard
"pro" printer.

The 1320tn connects directly to the ethernet 10/100 network, has a booklet
function built in to the driver, and does auto-duplexing. Running costs are
very low as it is a (mono) laser.

When choosing a printer, you have to look very hard at the detailed info to
find out if it has auto-duplexing and/or the booklet facioity.

I have not bought one yet, but I have had no problems with the booklet
facility on my Deskjet 1220C.

My LJ 4100 has a booklet feature I think. I don't have the duplexer on it,
though.

Suzanne:

I know this is an old post, but this is a big time saver in Word.

The booklet feature in Word 2003 works just great. It is also included in
Word 2007, but it has a problem with graphics and prints them on the wrong
page. See my response to "thenapolitan@gmail.c.." . Search for book fold in
the Office community.

Your document has to be saved as a 2003 .doc in order to work properly at
this time.
