Word gone?

Suddenly, when I try to run Word (as well as other Office programs) I
receive the following message: The application must be installed to run.
Please run Setup from the location where you originally installed the
program.

The .exe files seem to be in their proper places.

What's the solution? Any help will be most appreciated.

More information on this issue:

I'm using Office 2000 on Windows 98 Second edition. In Add/Remove
programs, when I try to run Install/Uninstall for Microsoft Office SR-1
Professional, the message is: This action is only valid for programs
that are installed.
