Word 2000 slow to launch

Hi all,
I've had Office XP with Word 2000 for a few years and recently Word (and
only Word) suddenly took much longer to launch.  The main window
opens quickly, but the toolbars, rulers, and cursor take several seconds
each to appear.  This started around the same time I installed the
latest Symantec AV required by my educational institution, but when I
disable and/or unload the AV service, the problem persists.  Also, I
have the same Office suite and Symantec software on a second machine and
have seen no problems.  Any clues?

TIA,
Ron

I've found Word 2003 progressively slower to load (luckily I do it only once
a day), but I don't know whether to blame NAV, ZoneAlarm, or the fact that
I'm now always connected via DSL; all these changes (switch from dial-up to
DSL and upgrade of NAV and ZAP) took place about the same time.
