Editing Images in Word

For some reason i'm unable to resize, crop or adjust an inserted image in
word.  The options are present on the Picture toolbar but are greyed out
(unavailable).  Any ideas would be sensational.

Have you tried Edit-->Cut, Edit-->Paste special, as a picture? Then see if
those options become available.

Thanks Anne,
After belting my head against the wall I found that a number of the settings
in Tools>Options>View were incorrect.

Changing the settings did the job.
