1.  INSERT;  TEXT BOX = I usually get a box that says "place your drawing
here "  (huh?).

2. But when  do get a text box; I enter my text; click on draw; click on
rotate; and all the rotate options are greyed out.

What's going on?  Is my Word corrupted?

Hi Kathi,

To rotate text in a text box, use Format|Text Direction.

As for the message you say you usually receive, that's not a standard Word
response to inserting a textbox.

Cheers

What you are describing in your first question sounds like the drawing
canvas. To turn it off, click Options on the Tools menu. Click the
General tab. Clear the "Automatically create drawing canvas when
inserting AutoShapes" check box. Click OK.
