If I add a new type of reference (e.g. "table" or "figure" - I am using a
German version of Office 2003) to the reference selection it is available as
usual, as well as in the selection in "cross-references". But, these new
types are not saved after closing Word, although the fields remain active. I
have a preinstalled Adobe plugin to create *.pdf documents. This plugin
already caused me some troubles with saving NORMAL.dot. ( The trick using the
"save all" function did not work) Is the above-described problem related to
this? (...as it does not occur on a computer lacking this Adobe plugin)

Yes. Caption labels are saved in Normal.dot. I can't see why Save All would
not work, however, unless your Normal.dot is read-only. Still, I believe
Adobe has a fix for the problem; see the last section of
http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adobe_acrobat_toolbar.htm.

Perfect hint! Thanks!

It takes a little to identify the correct update download on this Adobe web
site, but there is a 7.05.xx update for almost every version of Acrobat 7.0
Install this one and all the screwed word functions are restored!
