Thanks for the reply. I should have said that I am always clicking within the
problem word (as you describe). But the outcome is not consistent. Your
comment makes me wonder if Word is temporarily misreading the position of my
cursor.

Hi Jim,
Hmmmm. Once the 'red squiggle' is there I don't get the issue with right clicking, but it could be graphic driver, driver
acceleration setting, mouse driver, length of document or add-ins available that could cause things to slow the synch.
