When I attempt to Open or Save a Word Document, the Word stops responding.
Task Manager shows two Document1 Not Responding entries. There seem to be
many entries with similar problems but according to the solutions mine should
be working.
Brand new Dell with fresh Windows XP and Office 2003 installation with all
available Windows and Office updates installed.
It sounds like the registry entries might've gotten munged during the
installation or updates.
I would try Help - Detect and Repair.
If that doesn't work, then I'd head here:

I have the same problem. Brand new HP Windows XP Prof SP2 with all latest
upgrades (security and everything), 1.5GB ram Upgraded from Works 8.0 to
Office 2003. 1 in ten times, it just goes "Word Not Responding". I've tried
"repair" (twice), even remove and re-install. It seems to be rather random
file A will workd today, but not tomorrow, but then OK the day after. I have
Norton Internet Security 2007, I do not have WInfax, not Adobe. No error
messaeg are given and everything else seems to work OK. I do not have a
networked printer.

Terry,
I checked that out earlier, but none of it seems relavant. I'm using the
2003 version not the 2000. Not using Norton AV (using full internet
security), no network drives (as I previously reported). Also no error
mesages and not "freezing", just going "not responding"

Version is irrelevant. Just follow the FAQ from the start and work through
it all. Most likely part may be the printer driver.

I am having a similar problem, when trying to save files word will
freeze. I have tried the detect repair, disabling Norton, and un-
installing/re-installing and nothing seems to work. I just continue
to have "not responding" issues when trying to save.
