There is an issue in word 2007.
1.Start Word 2007 Application.
2.Insert a linked file.
3.Save this word 2007 document and close this document.
4.Reopen this document, don’t modify any and close it.
Result: We get the prompt which ask me to save this document, but actually
we don’t modify any. Excel 2007 also has this issue.
I want to know this issue is a bug or design in word 2007.
Hmmm...it looks like Word is modifying the link when you open the document.
I'm not sure if it is a bug or by design but a change is being made to the
document (to the LINK field) which is causing the prompt to save changes.
I'm leaning towards "by design" since they are making a modification to the
LINK field. I'm still scratching my head over why the specific change is
being made and that could be considered a bug. I don't this doesn't answer
your question specifically but right now whether it's a bug or by design is
unknown. :-)

Thanks Beth, Do you have a workaround for this issue?

I'm sorry but I don't know of one. Until you brought this up I didn't know
this was an issue. :-) I tried several things but so far the LINK field
continues to update.
