Every time I open a document in Word 07, and try to print it, I get a message that macros are disabled and to go to help for instructions. Instructions say to close the doc. and reopen with macros enabled. BUT it doesn't say HOW to do that. And, why is this happening all of a sudden and everytime I open a doc.? The Enable Macros message means there is a macro intercepting your standard Print command. Word commands won't trigger a macro warning. If you are trying to print "normally" then you may not want to enable the macros but instead remove the offending macro that has intercepted your Print command. To find it, first are you seeing the Developer tab in the Ribbon? If not, click the Microsoft Office Button, click Word Options, and in the Popular section, turn on "Show Developer tab in the Ribbon". Then on the Developer tab, click Macros and see if there is a macro named FilePrint or FilePrintDefault (or both). Once found, change the "Macros In" list and narrow down where the macro is stored. If in your Normal template then select the macro and click the Edit button and attempt to determine what the macro is doing. (You can copy/paste the macro for us to take a look at it if you'd like.) Then either rename or delete the macro. If the macro is found in a another template then locate the template, exit Word, and move it out the folder. It would likely be a Startup folder, either under Word or Office. This will prevent it from loading when Word starts. If you don't see a macro then post back and we'll go from there. :-) Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. It's the one in deskpdf.dot that is causing the problem. It's probably in the Office Installation path which could vary depending on where Office is installed so the easiest way to locate the template is to use Windows Search. Search for the template name, deskpft.dot. Once found, right-click the file and then click "Open containing folder". (Sorry I wasn't specific about using Windows Search to locate the file.) Note if you use Windows Desktop Search (which you might since you are using Office 2007) you need to use the Search Companion instead. Did you check the Macros list again to see if there are any other Print macros? Also, which Print command are you attempting to use? Are you clicking the Microsoft Office Button and then clicking Print or are you using a button on your Quick Access Toolbar? Macros, btw, provide the capability to automate various tasks in Word. For example if you have a task that you routinely perform you can record your actions to create a macro and play the macro to accomplish the task instead of manually performing the actions and what could take several minutes can be reduced to mere seconds. They can also be more advanced, such as intercept your Print commands, in order to add additional actions not carried out by the built-in commands. Too much information (haha). Anyway, I tried the whole process again - there were two deskpdf.dots so I made sure to move them both. It worked! BTW, I was using Print, not quick-print. It wasn't a problem with quick-print....???. You helped a lot!!! You're welcome. Glad to hear you now have the issue resolved. :-) Sorry, I tried to not get to in-depth with my explanation of macros. For a nutshell explanation, they are little programs you can create to make the application do what you want and usually they help you work faster - not hinder your productivity as in this situation. Since it is resolved then the Print command you used doesn't matter. I was obtaining a little more information if you weren't able to find another macro or template so I could offer another suggestion. Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup.
