I am running a Vista and I have MS Office 2003. When I open a document, it
will display the Word logo box then later on an error message that says "The
document path "C:/......" is not valid" or something like that appears and
the logo box stays and does not open Word. When I click on the Word icon on
my Desktop, It prompts me to open word in safe mode. I did and nothing
happened. I also clicked Winword in its original file location and the same
thing happened I also clicked on the safe mode thing and nothing happens.
Please help.

It sounds like either normal.dot corruption or registry corruption. I would
try the diagnostic/curative steps shown here:

Hi, Jason! I had a very similar problem recently. 2 notebooks,
different brands with vista-home. MS Word starts once initially if
opened with no document; starts and hangs up when opened for the
second and next times - logo, pause, error with the message like yours
(path invalid); starts and hangs up with the message "scanning for
viruses.." at the status bar (maybe not exactly the same - I deal with
a localized version) when opened initially with an existing doc. Both
of notebooks had Symantec Internet Security onboard - deinstallation
helped.
Good luck.
Dennis.
