Opening Word 2007 file and Word-to-Acrobat file

Filename has 60 characters. It has been opened several times before today
without difficulty. Today I get a message box that says it "is too long.
Please try using 'Map Network Drive' command to connect to the server to
shorten the path."
I am not using network, nor did I save it 2 days ago for that. A right click
on it to rename it (shorten it) does not bring up the usual box, but one that
gives options for the message or open, edit, etc. that do not execute. I
cannot open the pdf of it either. Other file names about that long are also
not accessible now. Never had this happen before. Will not open from the
filenamanager, nor from the applications.
When I click on the Map Network Drive (found on a right click) I get a box
that has a z drive designated with a drop down menu for others beyond J and
only network options--can't use any of them.
Has something hyjacked my software?

It sounds suspiciously like a possible malware infection. If neither the
Word or PDF versions opens, it points to a Windows problem. If you are able
to open other documents with filenames longer than the 'standard' 8.3 it
would suggest that maybe the files are both corrupt. But if you cannot
rename them in Windows Explorer, it again suggests malware.

Try creating a test document and assign it a long filename again. Create a
PDF using the same long name too. Will they open OK?

I am not familiar with malware or how to eliminate it. But I did create
another file with a long filename and there was no problem for changing or
opening.
I tried moving the file to another folder and it does not move. Right
clicking gives me the dialog box with Groove in it. Why does it think it is
networked? Is that the problem? I have never used network functions and am
sure I saved it in the usual way.
Fortunately, I have the pdf on my website, but I have no file to edit. It
is a workshop training manual--thus the concern.

In Word 2007, use File, Open, navigate to and select the bad file and then
use the Open and Repair option (the little arrow attached to the OPEN button
in the dialog.
