Hi, when I recieved my computer, it had Office 2002 on
it.  I wasn't able to open Word... it would open, and
give me an error message saying it had encountered a
problem, and needed to restart.  It would say that
everytime I tried to open it.  So I got Office 2003.  I
installed it, and I could open Word fine.  However, today
I was working on a document and all of a sudden I got
that error message again, and Word restarted.  When it
opened back up, it gave me the message again, and then
closed.  When I try to open Word now, it doesn't give me
an error message or anything- it simply doesn't open.
It'll get to the part where the little box that says its
opening comes on the screen, but that's it.  What do I do?

I just went through that page, and none of that seems to
apply to me.  I'm not using Office 2000, nor does it open
slowly, nor does it open and not crash.  And I have
checked for template corruption, a corrupt registry key,
printer driver, and I don't have Norton Anti-Virus.  None
of that seems to help me.

Try starting with the /a switch. If that enables Word to open, try the other
troubleshooting tips. They apply to *all* versions of Word.

One of them must apply.

1 doesn't apply (I don't run that version of Word).  I
tried 2.a., but nothing happens when I do it (2.a. is
winword.exe /a).  2.b. is deleting the data key.  When I
follow the link, it says deleting the data key will help
when "my menus and toolbars are missing and won't come
back, some of the options on Word's built-in dialogs are
permenently greyed out, Word doesn't retain settings,
some of the tabs look wonky, or Word opens slowly".  None
of htese apply to me. 2.c. says "another possibility is
that you have a network printer driver that is not
installed on your hard disk but is set at your default
printer".  My default printer isn't on a network, so this
doesn't apply.  2.d. deals with Nortan Anti-Virus, which
I don't have.  I have Symantec (its not the same thing,
is it?), so that doesn't apply.
3 deals with Word opening slowly... that's not what's
happening.
4 deals with an error message, but Word doesn't crash.
Mine is the other way around, there is no error message,
but it immediately closes.
As you can see, I really have no idea what to do... I
don't feel that any of these apply to me.  Should I
delete the registry key anyway?  I really appreciate your
help.  Thanks.
