Word won't work

I installed my office 2000 on a new computer with XP home
and cannot open word. Everything else runs just fine. I
get a box that says, "Microsoft Word for Windows has
encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience.". I have uninstalled it and
reinstalled it and it still happens. Please help!!
