Word won't open

Every time I try to open Word in Office 2000 it tells me
it has encountered a problem and needs to close. All the
other parts of Office work OK and Word opens on 2 of the
other XP desktops on the sytstem. For a while it kept
asking me for the serial number of the product from the
case it came in but despite entering it the program still
wouldn't open. I seem to be going round in circles...can
somebody help me!!!!!

I get the following message if this is any help
Appname: winword.exe Appversion: 9.0.0.3822
ModName: mso9.dll ModVer: 9.0.0.3821 Offset 00081c2a
