Word doesn't open in newly installed Office 2000 on xp.

I just tried to install Office 2000 on new stand alone xp machine. All programs work except Word. Word goes into default error message "Word has encountered a problem and needs to close" before program fully opens. Downloaded service pack 2 and 3 and word security pack KB830347. No luck
Any help?

Most likely the Normal.dot file is corrupted. Locate it
and delete or rename. Then Word should open. or...
If you set Winword.exe to run in compatibility mode,
remove that and try it again.

WORD Needs a printer. Make sure you have assigned one as default. I just
went through this with a stand alone laptop. I assigned it's internal fax
as the printer. Everything works fine now.
