Word has encountered an error and must shut down

This was intermittent but is now constant so I can't use
WORD 2002, in Office for students and teachers.

I get "Word has encountered a problem and must close." I
can't get any work done and can't afford to call
Microsoft.

Second, I see others have had this problem. Has anyone
offered a solution or explanation? Are these responses
avaailable somewhere?
