Is anyone familiar with  existing software for Word 2000
that converts .docs to XHTML in a WYSIWYG format, where
Word is the authoring & editing tool (and retains all its
editing capabilities), or even allows a Word 2000
authored .doc to have a "save as XHTML" option that gives
a WYSIWYG page?
I've really tried to research this, but I'm unable
to download the software options available.
Some software is really recent, and I couldn't find
any reviews by users of the product.
Maybe someone knows of the best tool for this, or has
tried options that didn't work?
Cambridge xDoc? ReWorx or XDK? Open Office?
(Wouldn't it make sense if Microsoft itself made
MS Word capable of doing this? Then editors/word
processors wouldn't be in a bind to have to learn a
new application, whether it be from Microsoft or
Macromedia, etc).

Apparently, from some other posts, it appears that Word
2003 Beta allows saving .doc file directly as .xml
With all the applications out there that have been
requiring extended markup language as the format, I
couldn't believe it when I realized that Word 2000 didn't
have native support for this capability (it does not even
allow import/export of .xml).   I haven't tried Word 2003
beta myself yet, but if it does have the elusive
capability everyone has been looking for...well...about
time, huh?  Only about 5 years late, I'd say.

If Word 2003 Beta can convert .docs to Xhtml (or is that
a whole other story?), that's one thing; but if Word 2003
doesn't allow the conversion of EXISTING 2000 .docs, then
that is another. Other websites I've read suggest that the
conversion of existing .docs to XML via Word 2003
is not possible; thus, the numerous software products
available for conversion of existing .docs.
