This requires additional software, such as Adobe Acrobat. If you used
to have the option of creating PDF, and the option is missing after
you upgrade your version of Word, you might want to try uninstalling
and reinstalling Acrobat.
If you do not have Adobe Acrobat, there are still other options for
converting Word to PDF. You could try BCL easyPDF, which allows you
to convert Word files with hyperlinks intact and adds bookmarks based
on the Word Styles used in your document. A free demo is available
from our website at http://www.bcltechnologies.com.
You can also browse a list of tools for creating PDF at
http://www.pdfstore.com.

I have had the same problem with conversion from Word to
PDF. I have Adobe Acrobat and was able to convert to PDF
using Word 97. I now have Word 2002 and cannto convert.
I have tried uninstalling and then re-installing Adobe
Acrobat without success. Any further suggestions? Thanks!

Please elaborate on your version numbers, and the methods you've tried.

I have Adobe Acrobat 5 and Word 2002. Someone suggested that in the "View" menu under "Toolbars" there should be an option to select "PDFMaker 5.0". I do not see this listed.

Does Acrobat Distiller or "Adobe PDF" appear in your list of printers?
If you're just missing the buttons in Word, check for the PDFMaker
toolbar under View > Toolbars. If it's there, you should just need to
select it from the list in order for the buttons to appear. You might
also want to try adjusting your macro security settings under Tools >
Macro > Security. If the security level is set to "High", it might
prevent the Adobe buttons from loading if you have an older copy of
Acrobat. Try setting it to "Medium" to see if you're prompted about a
PDFMaker macro the next time you launch Word.
You could also try checking for the PDFMaker.dot (the file that holds
the Word macro) in your Office startup directory. It should be under
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Startup. If it's not
there, check to see if it was mistakenly copied to an different folder
(like Office\Startup), or just copy it from the Acrobat folder
(C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat X.0\PDFMaker, where X is your version
of Acrobat). Once it's copied to the Office10\Startup directory, it
should be loaded when you launch Word (again, take a look at your
macro security settings if you continue to have problems).

That was also my problem.
Rachel, thanks for yr answer 11.02.
I guess that installation of an older (5.0!) version of acrobat ( and under
WinXP) is not prepared to put the application files in the right folders.
Normally I would expect that with the newest version of acrobat the problem
has disappeared. Do you know about that?
Your reaction here was the solution for us.
Thanks a lot!

I'm having a similar problem... I have Word 8.0 (part of Office 98), and Acrobat 5.0 on a Mac, and although my tool bar in Word shows the icons to convert to a pdf file, when I click it, it starts to work, but then stops with the following message
Create Adobe PDF printer not found. Select a PS printer as the default printer and open the page Setup dialog
I've done this, but, it still doesn't work. Any suggestions? Anyone?

Thank you! I couldn't figure out where the elusive "Acrobat menu" was...with the .dot file in the right place, I can edit the conversion settings, et voila! hot links.
