In Word 2000 Track Changes Options you had the option to
show or hide inserted, deleted and reformatted text, but
still show a mark at the edge where a change had occurred.

Word 2002 Track Change Options has similar functionality
but the ability to hide 'deleted' text has gone.

Is there a way to hide all changes but still show a mark
at the edge without having to accept/reject the changes?

Use a macro containing the command

Options.DeletedTextMark=

and select from the options that come up when you type that in the VBE
