Word 2002 + Acrobat + tables = Problems

I am running Word 2002 and Acrobat 5 on Windows XP Professional.  I can
generate PDF's from plain text documents or plain text with GIF.
However, if the document has tables, Acrobat goes into an endless loop.
I can use Explorer to watch the size of the output PDF, and it just
goes up and up and up until it eats the system and crashes.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you solve it?

Are you using the button on the Word toolbar to create the PDF?  Try
printing to Distiller instead.  (Go to File > Print and select Acrobat
Distiller from the list of printers.)

Clicking on the button runs a Word macro to collect information about
the document's structure and add tagging to the PDF.  It's also used
for preserving any hyperlinks and creating a table of bookmarks based
on the Word styles used.  If you don't need any of these features,
printing to Distiller should be simpler and will probably result in a
smaller file.

Yes, I was using the Print function, not the Acrobat button.  (I neve
use the Acrobat button and have removed it from my toolbar.)

I just went to check whether I was using Print to Distiller or Print t
PDFWriter.  Distiller did run this time.  The difference was that I wa
in Normal view rather than Print Layout view.  However, the pdf fil
was 40% larger than the Word file.  There are GIF's in the header an
footer, but I used this same template in another file ? one withou
tables ? and that pdf is 12% smaller than its Word file.

If I use Print to PDFWriter even in Normal view, I have the sam
problem
