Using .prn file (after "Print to File")

One of the options on the Print dialog is "Print to File" - this creates a
.prn file. This retains all the formatting of the document (when saved to
aparticular printer format) and can then be printed at some future point on
that printer.

This is the theory...

How does one actually get them to work??
