Hi Ron,
Word 2002 and 2003 have MS Office Document Imaging and Scanning
as an optional installation app. It includes a 'send to Word'
choice once the OCR is completed. The OCR capability may not
be as capable as some third party products but it is available.

I thought that WORD was OCR capable? Do I need to purchase 3rd party
software to scan and OCR images? >>

Thanks for the input, I will check to see it was installed as an option. If
it is not capable, then I will look at some third party software.

OmniPage Pro Office 14 is supposed to be best.
I purchased in July, but I've not had a chance to use.

I use ABBYY FinePrint, its very sweet! It will even take pdf files & change
them to word if you want & you can edit them with ABBYY or the other program
you edit them with.
Hope this helps

It's not. Unless the image is plain blocked text (no tables, etc) it will make a dog's breakfast of the conversion. And on my install (Office 2002) it will only read TIF files.

Yes I have Office 2003, it wants tif or mdi files
But it works surprisingly well
