Lee,
A few comments first...
"Word" is the word processor program by Microsoft.
"Wordperfect" is the word processor program by Corel
Recent versions of Wordperfect will allow you to save your document as
a Word file.... that is, it will be readable by people using Word. You
have to specify this when saving the file.
Microsoft Works is yet another program, a general package of
wordprocessor, spreadsheet and database. Some versions of Microsoft
Works (the "Suite" versions) include the actual Microsoft "Word" word
processor.... so if you got the MS works Suite, they you have Word on
those CDs. Just check them and see.
Finally, if you don't have Word on the CDs, and the version of
WordPerfect won't allow you to save the file as a Word document, then
save it as an RTF file. RTF files preserve most of the formatting, and
are "universal" in that any word processor should be able to read
them.

Charlie,
Thank you soooooooooo much! I know I am not using my terminology correctly.
By throwing around the term "word" like it applies to all. Knowledge is power
and I thank you for explainining the difference. After talking to others
about this situation before going on here I guess there are a lot of us "self
taught" persons who have it incorrect.
I have the options on the Corel word perfect 12 program.. to open a file
in.. word perfect mode , microsoft word mode, word perfect classic mode and
finally word perfect legal mode. YIkes! SO talk about how many ways to do
something..confused? when you haven't a clue!
I didn't know..
I did try in several of those modes and saved them but persons could still
not open.
So I must have had to change the format first before sending.?
I just didn't and don't know enough about it to have understood. I have
since sent my resume to my sister in both .doc and rtf format from microsoft
works 2000 and she copied and pasted the file back to me ..so I am hoping
most can open now?
The knowledge of computers is seeminlgy endless and to one who has just
better than basic skills quite fascinating. Sure glad there are those who
are in the know! ô¿~
Thanks so much,
Lee
ps: and what the -eck does possess the supplier to put Corel on for software
rather than Word when I checked and the price seems to similar. Just one is
more flowery I was told in the store. ??? who knew :)

Generally, the Microsoft products are the most expensive, but a
"retail" version of WordPerfect is also very expensive. Your computer
vendor buys an "OEM" version of either program, for a lot less money,
but still pays a lot less for WordPerfect than he does for Word.
You can buy a legal OEM copy of MS Works suite for about $38 that
contains a copy of word XP from
http://www.directdeals.com/category_works_suite.aspx
The package also contains other programs, but you don't have to
install them. This is about the cheapest way to get Word. However,
with WordPerfect 12 you should be able to save as a Word document
cocmpatible with Word 97/2000/2002/2003. (I have that version of
Wordperfect, and it gives these and many other options.)
