I have several hundred address labels originaly created manually in a Word
document; that is, names and addresses entered directly into Avery 5160
label format.

Can I extract this data in a comma-delimited or similar format?

Graham Mayor's article at

may be a useful startign point, even if you don't want to use Mail Merge.
