Hi George,
Vector Markup Language (VML) is a method of creating a graphic from textual instructions/descriptions without having a binary
'graphic' file included. It's not a new technique (EPS, WMF and some others make use of it).
Basically the expression is telling Word or to check the settings for using VML in Tools=>Options=>General=>Web Options when working
with documents (gte is 'greater than or equal to' and '1' = on) (also to a MS web browser).
For example, if you start a new document in Word and from the drawing toolbar use the oval shape to draw a circle on the blank page,
fill it red and add a blue border the VML in the Word document (view source from the browser) would show something like this to
enable Word or a browser to recreate the graphic.
<v:oval id="_x0000_s1037"
style='position:absolute;
margin-left:154.45pt;
margin-top:76.6pt;
width:80.7pt;
height:80.7pt;
z-index:1'
fillcolor="red"
strokecolor="blue"
strokeweight="6pt"/>

Dear all,
I would like to ask, in Office 2000, when i save a document as "Html Web
Page", i would get lots of xml tags in the html source. Some of the source is
Vector Markup Language, just wondering what is VML. And what is the meaning
of the following tags:
1. <!--[if gte vml 1]>
2. <![if !vml]>
3. Where is variable 'vml' defined in the Html Source?
Thanks you very much
Regards,
