I received a 20k word file and get the message "file ... not avaialbe" when
I try to open it in word2002.  The name of the file I try to open is not the
same as the file name on the disk.  I insatlled the 2003 converter as well
as the file format converters from the microsoft site.

In some cases, it means that the file is corrupted. It can also mean a
problem with Norton AntiVirus.

You might find the discussion here useful:

But, before trying any of that, I would see if I could open the file on a
different computer.
