I need to convert a French Word.doc file to an MS-DOS Text
with Layout file (asc) to be used on the company
mainframe. The mainframe strips the special characters
(such as é, ë, ê, è). Is there some trick to this?

If you're using Office XP you can download and install
the text converters add-in for Word.  The Office XP
download site should have it listed.  We currently use it
for our AutoCAD documents to be inserted into a dwg file
and it works well.
Regards,

Ken
