I am using Microsoft Word 2002 and have a lot of old
WordPerfect files. I have Windows XP Home without the
CD. When I tried to open a .WPD file, it said I needed a
converter and asked if I wanted to install it then.
After answering Yes, it began installing but then
prompted me for the Windows XP Professional CD, which
contained the converter. Since I have Windows XP Home, I
can't do this -- obviously. Is there a converter that I
can download for this purpose? I have a lot of old
WordPerfect files from my crashed computer. :-(

Doug,
Well, if nothing else works, you can always install WordPerfect, open
the files in WP and then save them from WP as Word DOC files. If these
are "old" Wordperfect files, then you won't need the latest version of
Wordperfect... I'd suggest something like Wordperfect Office Suite 8.0
($6.95) or Wordperfect Office 2000 ($12.95) at www.directdeals.com.
Office suite 8 contains WP ver 8, which is probably about 5 years old,
whereas Office 2000 contains WP ver 9, which is about 3 years old.

I think OpenOffice www.openoffice.org can open Wprd Perfect
files. Or install WP on the new computer.
