Opening Old Word Files

When opening older Word files (2.0 to 6.0), Word 2000
opens the "Convert File" window and prompts to open the
files as "Text Only." When opened as "Text Only," the
documents contain numerous symbols. Is there a way to get
Word 2000 to recognize older Word files?

Hi 'Challenged',
When you open the file, select
           'Word 6.0/95 for Windows&Macintosh'
in the 'Files of Type:' dropdown list -
           I don't know about Word 2.0!

Thank you Pat for your suggestion. When I choose 'Word
6.0/95 for Windows&Macintosh'or 'Word 2.x for Windows' I
receive the message "The file is not the right file type."
I don't understand it. I've always used Word and I'm
surprised that my current Word can't open my old word
files.

Please attach a couple of the documents to a private e-mail.
I am intrigued!
