How do I convert .wps files over to .doc files?

If I open my .wps file in Word it is unreadable and
cannot be saved as a readable .doc file.

Make sure you're using the Works converter to open it. On the General tab of
Tools | Options, check the box for "Confirm conversion at Open." That will
give you a chance to select the converter being used.
