Any ideas what this message means?  I have dumped the MS Word and
re-installed it several times and still get this message.  I cannot save a
file

You can re-install Word as many times as you want, but it won't overcome
that fact that this error message comes not from Word itself but from a user
file or add-in and thus is unaffected by the re-installation.

The message comes either from an auto-macro in normal.dot, or more likely
from an errant or incompatible add-in.
See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm in respect of
both possibilities.
