I am working on a District Policy book for a school district, therefore I
have made my page numbers actually policy numbers.  I also have to add in
Regulations pages which have a page number and a letter (ex. 3110R)  Can
anyone help, I have tried everything but cannot seem to be able to add an
alpha character to the numerical.

If you can, delete your current page numbers, which were probably inserted
using Insert> Page Number. They will cause you problems. View Header/Footer
and use the AutoText toolbar to insert page number fields where you want
them. You can then simply type in the letter or whatever other text you
want. Do not insert a text box as was suggested previously, it will add to
your problems. http://addbalance.com/usersguide/sections.htm

You can make much more complex page numbering if you need to. Take a look at
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Numbering/PageNumbering.htm. For even more,
see http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/Page_Numbering.htm.

Thank you.  However, I neglected to include that I am also doing an automated
TOC and I need the policy numbers (page numbers) to be displayed (and linked)
to be able to click on to take you directly to that policy.  Will this still
pull the page number into the TOC?

Yes. The numbers in the TOC are generated for the TOC regardless of whether
or not you have page numbers showing on the page itself.

But any text that is added manually will not be picked up by the TOC.
