Where do you want the page numbers? In text? In a margin? Which margin?
Which page(s)? If the first page or all but the first page it is easy.
Do not use Insert > Page Numbers. Ever.
If different first page won't help, take a look at
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Numbering/PageNumbering.htm. For even more,
see http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/Page_Numbering.htm.
As a last resort (especially for a beginner) you can insert section breaks.
Each section can have different page numbering.

> How to insert page number only in selected pages?
As Charles says, the solution depends on how the pages are "selected." But
see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NumberingFrontMatter.htm and
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm for information on ways
to vary headers and footers (including leaving them blank).
