Why won't word 2003 let me use an apostrophe when typing?

I'm trying to type a letter using word 2003.  Several of the words I'm using
requires the use of ('s) because of the way they're used in the sentance.
Both apostrophes and quotation marks do not show when I'm typing.

Sounds like a font problem. Does this happen when you use another font?

Thanks Tim.  A coworker asked me the same thing when I talked to her about it
yesterday.  That's when I realized I was using a specialized font that I had
downloaded.  When I use the fonts that came with "word" the symbols work fine.
