I want to type text and insert arrows across multiple date blocks (cells) in
my calendar.  For example, how would I insert...

Use Insert > Text Box. Draw the box across the cells and put the text
inside. You can also right-click the edge of the box, choose Format Text
Box, and set the fill color and outline color, etc.
