Links not automatically updating.

I've created numerous Links from my Excel spreadsheet to a Word document. On
General tab in Word - "Update Automatic Links at Open" is checked, links
all show
"Auto" when I display them, upon opening of Word document I respond "YES" to
update links, nothing works, except for manually updating with PFK9. I
can't get links to automatically update, any ideas??

Which version of Word is involved, here?
