A customer is having a problem with a Word document when in the Normal View.
When the document is opened, the screen appears to "jump" and then a left
white space appears to the left of the text along with the scroll bar at the
bottom.  If you switch to Print Layout view or view the document in Print
Preview, it appears as normal.  If you print it, it appears as normal.  The
left and right margins are set to 0.6.  Any ideas why this is happening when
in Normal View?

Is this perhaps the Style Area or Document Map?

Just the title shows up in the document map.

So this *is* the Document Map?

No, document map is not being used.

What is displayed in the white area you are describing? Do you see any text
at all, such as "Normal"?

There is nothing in the white space.  It is like a large margin on both the
left and right side but it only appears while in Normal view.

You will ordinarily have a large white area to the right in Normal view. You
will have a white margin to the left if you have indented the text or if you
have shifted the view to the left by Shift+clicking on the left arrow on the
horizontal scroll bar (but this view will ordinarily not survive a change
from Normal to Print Layout view and back). If the horizontal ruler is
displayed, you should be able to tell something from where the margin and
indent markers are.

Is there any division between the text and this white area (a bar of any
kind)? Are you sure you're not in Print Layout view with white space hidden?

This is no ruler above this white section.  The ruler appears as normal above
the text.  I have changed back and forth between Normal view and Print Layout
view so I know that this is in Normal view.  Other documents that I open and
switch to Normal view do not appear this way.

Can you post a screen shot somewhere?

Don't have a place to post it.  I could email it if necessary.

You can send the document to me. Since the problem occurs in only a single
doc, it's possible that looking at it would provide an answer.
