The smallest Arial font is 8 pt. In a Word document, how do I change Arial
font size to smaller than 8 pt. for a particular paragraph?
Select the text or whole paragraph you want to change, and in the
little box on the toolbar that shows your font size, type a number,
and press Enter.
(Or you can create a new style with that size, if you're going to use
it a lot.)

I tried it but it doesn't work. The font size doesn't change from 8 pt. to 6
pt. and the 6 doesn't remain in the little box.

Hitting the Enter key after you type in the 6 is critical. If you don't do
it, it won't change.

That "Enter" step is easy to miss, isn't it? ;-)
