I have a blank page and typing a letter, I want to insert something stored
in the address block under the mailings tab. when I click the mailings tab,
the address button is not bold so that I can click it to open it...WHY?????

AddressBlock is a mailmerge field associated with an attached data file. If
you are not using a merge document with a data file attached the field is
not available. The field doesn't 'store' anything.

I suspect that you want 'Address Book' which is not on the mailings tab, but
can be added to the QAT to insert addresses from Outlook.
