I created a header in Word 2007. I used the "Alphabet" style. This created a
reddish-brown line in the header. I would like to edit this line. I might
want to delete it or at least change the color. I cannot figure out any
possible way to do this. I've tried all of the suggestions in the HELP for
selecting objects, but no matter what I do, I cannot select the line for
editing or deletion. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

It's a border. Put the cursor in the header text and then select No
Border from the Borders menu (in the Paragraph section of the Home
ribbon).
