In Word 2007 when I type the word “I” it always appears in lower case (unless
it’s the beginning of a sentence).  Can anyone tell me how to have this
always auto-corrected to upper case please?

There is by default a built-in AutoCorrect entry to correct i to I. If you
have somehow deleted this entry, you can restore it, but it seems more
likely that perhaps you've disabled AutoCorrect.
