Thank You for such a quick response. When I click Insert - Page Numbers, the
Page numbers Window comes up. In that window Bottom of Page is selected.
Alignment is Right. The box is checked for Show number on first page. I click
Format and the Page Number window comes up. In the Number Format drop down
menu there are 7 selections, none of which is "X of Y". "Chapter starts with
style" is gray. "Use separator:" is gray. "Examples:" is gray. The radio
button is selected for "Continue from previous section" in the Page Numbering
section of that window. That's all I have been able to find. Am I looking in
the right place? Do I have a version that does not offer Page X of Y? It's
Word 2003. Is there something that needs turned on or off? All ideas,
suggestions, and comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.

The instructions you were given were for Word 2007. In Word 2003, View |
Header and Footer. This will open the Header pane and display the Header and
Footer toolbar. On the toolbar, click on the Switch Between Header and
Footer button to get to the footer. Then select Page X of Y from the
AutoText menu on the toolbar. You'll need to use Ctrl+R to align this to the
right, or, if the footer is to contain other text, press Tab twice to place
it at the right-aligned tab stop at the right margin (and note that if
you've changed the margins, you'll probably need to move the tab stop.
Alternatively, use Insert | Page Numbers to insert a simple page number in
the desired position. It will be inserted in a frame. Double-click in the
header or footer to activate the header/footer story and display the Header
and Footer toolbar. Select the page number and choose Page X of Y from the
AutoText menu to replace it.

Both CyberTaz and JoAnn were under the impression that you had Word 2007. The
way you get this in Word 2003 and earlier is completely different.
Click the View menu and choose "Header and Footer" to open the header pane. At
the same time, the Header & Footer toolbar should appear. On that toolbar, click
"Insert AutoText" and choose "Page X of Y" from the bottom of the list.

I based my response on CyberTaz's comment. That'll teach me to assume.
