If you press Enter immediately after a number (the paragraph is empty), Word
assumes you don't want it numbered. Type at least a space before pressing
Enter, and you will get another number. OTOH, if you are using Word's
built-in heading styles, then the "Style for following paragraph" is Normal.

It happens when I type something as well. For example in the first line, the
number appears '1)' and I type so that it reads '1) Introduction' and press
enter and nothing appears in the second line.
