Hello,

In this new version of Word, if I use a style set with shaded header styles
(several use shading to good effect) and require a page break before the
header (either hard page break or a Next Page section break), the shading
displays in the page break line on the preceeding page and also prints.

For example, if I use the Modern style set and want a page break before each
Level 1 header, which has a moss green shaded background AND I place a page
break before the header, a green line will appear at the page break insertion
point on the previous page -- and will print.

Suggestions or solutions?

Thanks to anyone with an idea.

Instead of a Page or Section break before the Heading 1, have you tried
applying the Paragraph setting of "Page Break Before" to the Heading 1 style?
The shading is being duplicated because by design Page and Section Breaks
automatically are assigned the style that immediately follows them, nothing
you can do to stop that, except don't use a Page or Section Break is not
really necessary.
Hope this helps.
