Word 2007 quits resonding when closing .doc file

When I close a .doc file (not a .docx file) in Word 2007, the program quits
responding and tries to recover. Word restarts with a blank page and then i
can close the program. Is there a fix for this?

Does this happen with any *.doc file or just with a particular one?

It happens with all .doc files. .docx files close properly.

Have you tried repairing the Word installation?

No, I have had so much trouble with Vista Office apps in general that that
never occured to me. For example, Word, Outlook both quit responding. I
have posted several time in the Outlook thread, but no one seems to have an
answer, but lots of people have the problem.

Ok, I repaired Office 2007, but still have the same problem. I will now look
