I use Word 2002 which came with Works 2003. All was fine
until about a month ago when I attempted to run the spell
checker and received the message "Word can't check the
spelling or grammar in this document. the feature is not
available". A promt then appeared to install the
feature. The program then went through the motion of
installing and repairing and continues to do so in a loop.
I could not find any reference to this on line, so I
looked up the issues on similar versions of word. I
tried their suggestions of making surew "run all from my
computer" is checked. I used the inst all CD to repair
and that did nothing. I then uninstalled Word 2002,
rebooted the PC and then reinstalled and that did nothing
either. I am now suspicious that the Windows XP registry
may be screwed.
I creat a lot of documents in a week and spelling / gr
ammar checking is very important. I need help here.
Thanks!

Hi Kim,
I can't promise I can help, but I'll present my thoughts,
and with any luck, we may find something...
1. Search your hard-drive for *.lex files and note the
location. If they're in more than one location, note those
other locations, as well. (I'm wondering if things aren't
where Word expects them)
2. Open the Registry, and try to "Find" this location (or
these locations). Note the key "paths" that were found.
3. Now try searching only on .lex and compare these results
with the previous ones. If they're different, then there
probably is a problem with the registration.
