I have Works Suite in French version but use Word to edit documents in French
and English. When I do spelling and grammar check the help / suggestions are
always in German which I cannot cope with. Is there anything I can do? Please
help!

Is the Word application you're using also a French version? If not, which
version (language and number) is it? Which language version of Windows do you
have? Have you installed any German software on this machine?

Thanks Cindy for your prompt reply,

Application is Word 2002 (10.6612.6714) SP3
Product ID : 54619-OEM-1650002-00005

Supplied as component of Works Version 7.0
Product ID : 74264-OEM-0400003-00000

Windows XP Edition familiale SP2 build 2600 French version

Installed as bundled software on Medion Titanium MD 8083

No specific German software as far as I can tell (or none that I've installed)

Kind Regards

Syd

Hi Syd

OK, it's quite possible that the French languge version of Word/Works comes with
German language proofing tools. I know the German language version of Word comes
with French, Italian and English, besides German.

On my website, in the Tips section, you'll find an article about using language
formatting in Word. Take a look at that, especially the part about needing to set
the WINDOWS language. It's quite possible that something changed this setting on
your machine. Unfortunately, I can't tell you the French term for where you have to
go, but it's the same place where one changes the currency settings, for example.

Hi Cindy

Thanks for your reply.

Tried to rectify problem but no luck so far.

Suspect you are right and it is a feature (undesirable and unhelpful though
that may be) of a German language proofing tool and thus implicit in this
version. Regrettable, as my understanding of German language is limited.
